Largest Danish Retailer Implements SAP(R) ERP Financials to Spur Business Growth
SAP AG today announced that Dansk Supermarked A/S, the largest retailer in Denmark, has selected SAP(R) ERP Financials as the foundation to run the company's financial operations and enable further business growth. The Danish retailer selected SAP over Oracle and other vendors to manage and expand the financial operations of its six supermarket chains, including Salling, fotex supermarket, Bilka hypermarket, Toj & Sko, A-Z and the discount chain Netto. The announcement was made at SAPPHIRE(R) '07, SAP's international customer conference, being held in Vienna, Austria, May 14 - 16.
Established more than 40 years ago, Dansk Supermarked has become the largest retailer in Denmark. Since the 1980s, Dansk Supermarked has been expanding its presence in other European countries, including Poland, Sweden, Germany and the UK. Recently, the retailer recognized that its home-grown legacy system posed a challenge to continuing its current growth path. After evaluating different software vendors, Dansk Supermarked selected SAP as its IT vendor of choice to support its financial processes and continue business expansion.
"As SAP is the dominant player in the European market, especially in Denmark, selecting SAP ERP Financials was a natural choice for us," said Kurt Roland Andreassen, ERP Program Manager, Dansk Supermarked A/S. "By implementing SAP software we made a strategic decision to prepare our IT systems to expand our market leadership position in Denmark and enable our European expansion plans."
