SAP Names Rod Massey to Lead Global Public Sector Unit

by PR Newswire

Appointment of Former CIO of Fastest-Growing County in the United States Further Underscores SAP's Commitment to Meeting Public Sector Customer Needs

WALLDORF, Germany, Aug. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SAP AG (NYSE:SAP) today announced the appointment of Rod Massey, former CIO of Clark County, Nevada -- home to the growing city of Las Vegas and an SAP customer -- to lead the company's global public sector business unit. The appointment illustrates SAP's continued commitment to understanding the challenges its customers face and designing business solutions to meet those needs. This organizational addition will help SAP to extend its leadership in the public sector, a key growth industry for the company, by combining public sector expertise with proven technologies to meet the complete requirements of federal, state and local government organizations around the world.

As vice president for the public sector industry business unit, Massey will be responsible for growing and managing strategic relationships with SAP's government customers in addition to enhancing its thought leadership position in the industry. Massey will report directly to Tom Shirk, president of SAP's global public services business unit, and will work closely with Ian Swann.

Massey has more than 12 years of hands-on experience serving local government organizations, including the cities of Palo Alto, California; Milpitas, California and Scottsdale, Arizona. During his time as CIO of Clark County, Massey helped drive a massive enterprise resource planning (ERP) transformation project with SAP -- involving 2,600 county employees in over 40 different departments and agencies -- on-time and within budget. During his career, Massey has successfully managed a diverse portfolio of IT services including strategic planning, organization and staffing, program and product management and systems architecture, receiving numerous awards for his leadership. He is a co-author of the book titled Smart Permit: A Blueprint for Success, and served as a U.S. Army officer.

"Rod has been a great advocate of SAP and has a true understanding of the challenges public sector CIOs face everyday," said Tom Shirk, president, SAP global public services. "Rod is a proven, dedicated and inspirational leader -- guiding his Clark County team to deliver bottom line results through technological innovation. We are confident Rod will help us foster a culture of excellence and passion at SAP and lead our public services business unit to future success in helping meet customer needs."
